Background and History of the Doris Network

Doris was founded 1999 in Gothenburg and is a free, independent network of female film workers; producers, scriptwriters, film directors, assistant film directors, set designers, continuity girls and film students based in Gothenburg. Doris has about 30 members.

Doris wants to investigate how one can influence the male and female stereotypes presented on the film and TV screens. Doris works actively to change the existing inequality within film business and to reinforce and make women visible on all levels within film and TV. The Doris Network meets continuously once a month to exchange experiences, support each others projects and invite lecturers.

Doris Film was nominated for the Golden Dragon 2004 (ex Golden Hat) which is the scholarship of Film Art to someone who has taken measures to promote film art. There motivation is the following:

”In these times when it is politically incorrect to discuss the male dominance within the film industry it is liberating when somebody stops talking and actively do something about it. This autumn Doris – an almost five year old network of around 30 female film workers – put its foot down. The Doris Manifesto was kicked off and two weeks ago was the deadline for a leading script contest. Doris will now, during tree years time, produce nine short films and a documentary. With women in all leading positions, of course.”
